 General Visa Information

  • British passport holders do not require a visa for the entry purpose of a short term visit (e.g. Tourism, Visiting friends or relatives, Attending business meetings) up to 90 days. 
  • If you want to know whether you would need a visa or not, to go to Korea, please go to <Entry Formality> page and check on there. (You can find on the bar on the left side of this page.)

  • YOU CAN APPLY FOR VISA EITHER BY POST OR IN PERSON.
  • You do not need to make any appointment to visit the visa section.
  •  IF you are not Brtish National, you must hold residential visa in UK to apply for visa through us.
  •  Visa processing requires 5 working days. (For example, if you apply for Korean visa on Monday, you could collect it in person on the following Monday. And this period does not include days for delivery nor bank holiday.)


  • If you plan to stay in Korea for more than 90 days, you must have a specific reason to stay in Korea to obtain a proper long-term visa.
  • Please Note: When filling out the visa application form, please type or print neatly.
  • If you are requesting a visa by POST, be sure to enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope marked with the correct postage to receive your visa(s).
  • With regard to work visas, you are required to obtain a certificate number of Certificate for Confirmation of Visa Issuance, except for type C-4 visas.
    - If there is a subsidiary company established in Korea, the president of the company- as long as he/she has the necessary documents-can apply for your work permit at the Immigration Office and obtain the certificate number of the Certificate for Confirmation of Visa Issuance.

 

GENERAL Required Documents for Visa Application

   Regardless of your visa status, these items must be submitted to obtain a visa: 
  (WE CAN REQUIRE MORE DOCUMENTS WHEN WE NEED.)

  1. A valid passport
  2. A completed visa application(Click to download)
  3. A recent passport photo(3.5x4.5cm colour)
  4. Fee    (Payable to : the Korean Embassy only either by cash or by postal order. Personal Cheques or Scottish pounds are not acceptable.)


* For British Nationals, only Single Entry visa is available except certain cases. (i.e. D-2 visa)

               ▸Diplomats (A-1) and Agreement(A-3) : Free of charge

               ▸ Countries which visa fees are waived for :  ** Citizens of Japan, Thailand, the Philippines (for stay in Korea under 59 days),Sweden, Spain, and Italy do not need to pay a visa-processing fee. 

               ▸  Please provide a self-addressed stamped special delivery envelope with your application if you would like your passport returned by post. 

               ▸ Please prepare photocopy along with original documents if you want to keep the original documents for yourself after visa process.
Submitted documents will not be returned in any circumstances except for the passport.

(A-2)

Agreement
(A-3)

- Temporary duty order or statement of employment or official letter from Foreign Minister to certify your status. 

* An Official passport or identification card is required.

Coverage
(C-1)

- Temporary duty order or statement of employment issued by the company employing the applicant or certificate of foreign news reporter.

(C-3) 

TOURISM, VISITING, CONFRENCE ETC

- School Letter/Company Letter of company headed paper.
  - Bank statement conditions
    They must be originals. (we do not accept internet or cashpoint / ATM statements as evidence of funds.)

- Recent bank statement(issued within the last two weeks) for the last 3 months  showing a sum of £ 1,500 and its photocopy.

- Return flight ticket and its photocopy

Short-Term Employment
(C-4)

1) Temporary Entertainment
- A certificate of employment (i.e. Contract or Agreement)
- Performance Recommendation Letter from the Motion Pictures Grade Committee

2) Advertisement/Fashion Model
- A Certificate of Employment or Contract
- Recommendation letter for employment from the minister of relevant mistries (Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy), Cooperation Public Letter or Document to prove the necessity of working

3) Detachment under the service contract
- A Certificate of Employment or Contract from Current Employer
- A copy of service contract (Invitation and Employment letter from KOREA)
- A warrant of detachment or warrant of business trip

4) Foreign teacher of English Camp

A certificate of degree(Applicants may choose one of the following)
   · Original copy of the diploma (will be returned to the applicant after   making a copy and having it sealed as a legitimate copy) This is NOT available from 10th of July 2010.
   · Certificate of academic degree issued by the relevant university. (Affixed with an apostille or attached with documents verifying highest education, issued by domestic verification agency)
   · Certificate of graduation that lists acquisition of diploma (Affixed with apostille or attached with documents verifying highest education, issued by domestic verification agency)
- Issuance of proof of (lack of) criminal records
·(the records must be affixed with the relevant nation’s Apostille)
- A certificate of employment
- Copy of Business Registration of the organization that opened the camp, Corporate Registration or Document of establishing educational organizations(사업자등록증 사본)
- Copy of lifetime education facility registration, Pointed Document of lifetime education facility reporting   repairs  (평생교육시설등록증사본)
- The schedule of the English camp(mark the part that are relevant to the applicant) 

5) Those working in IT (information technology), e-business, BT (bio-technology), NT (nano-technology), new composite material, transportation facilities, digital appliances, or environmental energy.


- A certificate of employment
- A certificate of career(bachelor, master or doctor need to submit photocopy of the certificate of degree)
- Recommendation Letter of working from the minister of relevant ministries(Ministry of Culture & Tourism, Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy), Cooperation Public Letter or Document to prove the necessity of working

Culture/Art
(D-1)

- Letter of Invitation

- Documents proving the fact that it is culture and art organization

- Curriculum vitae or certificate of career

* If you leave Korea with the intention of returning before the expiration of your period of stay, you are required to obtain a re-entry permit from the Immigration Office in Korea before leaving.

Students
(D-2)

- Certificate of admission (Official letter from Korea)

- Certificate of the current or last school attended

- Financial Affidavit  : 
    the latest 6months bank statements showing at least 10,000 USD.(The 10,000 USD must have been held in account for 1 month at least). 

* If  the applicant is not able to support him/herself financially, s/he can submit Doc 1) or Doc 2) either. 

     1) A certificate of student loan which can cover the expanses in Korea (Only for the case the applicant does not have enough balance on the bank account.)

     2) Parents or one of their family members financial affidavit. However, in this case, we require copy of the person's passport and agreement letter with signature which explains the person will be fully support the applicant financially .


* If you leave Korea with the intention of returning before the expiration of your period of stay, you are required to obtain a re-entry permit from the Immigration Office in Korea before leaving.

Industrial Trainees
(D-3)

- Number of Certificate for confirmation of visa issuance issued by the Ministry of Justice in Korea

* If you are not a UK national, your UK resident visa must be valid for more than a year. If your current UK visa is valid for less than a year, a notarised reference document from Korea is required to apply for the visa.

* If you leave Korea with the intention of returning before the expiration of your period of stay, you are required to obtain a re-entry permit from the Immigration Office in Korea before leaving.

Student / General Trainees
(D-4)

- Certificate of school enrollment or school attendance

- Certificate of the current or last school attended

- Financial Affidavit  : 
    the latest 6months bank statements showing at least 10,000 USD.(The 10,000 USD must have been held in account for 1 month at least). 

* If  the applicant is not able to support him/herself financially, s/he can submit Doc 1) or Doc 2) either.

- An employment letter indicating tenure in Korea

- A document proving provision of all necessary funding

of applicant's activities during tenure in Korea

* If you leave Korea with the intention of returning before the expiration of your period of stay, you are required to obtain a re-entry permit from the Immigration Office in Korea before leaving.

Religious Workers
(D-6)

- Certificate for confirmation of visa issuance issued by the Ministry of Justice in Korea or its number

* You may alternatively submit the following documents.

- Temporary mission order

- A copy of a certificate from a religious organisation or social welfare organisation establishment

- A document proving relevant organisation's financial support for the applicant's expenses

* If you leave Korea with the intention of returning before the expiration of your period of stay, you are required to obtain a re-entry permit from the Immigration Office in Korea before leaving.

Intracompany Transferees
(D-7)

- Certificate for confirmation of visa issuance issued by the Ministry of Justice in Korea

Treaty Investors
(D-8)

- Temporary duty order or certificate of employment

- Certificate of foreigner's investment report, including copy of register book or certificate of business registration

- Certificate of registered investment company

* If you leave Korea with the intention of returning before the expiration of your period of stay, you are required to obtain a re-entry permit from the Immigration Office in Korea before leaving.

- We do not issue or provide advice regarding apostille at all. Please contact the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office (www.fco.gov.uk)

- if you are looking for or are offered a job, you may need to check our immigration website (http://www.immigration.go.kr) for further information.

- if you have any criminal history (including any cautions) or medical history, you have to enclose photocopy of the relevant documents (e.g. photocopy of your CRB check, medical letter from a doctor)

- if we need to interview you, our general advice is not to make any non-urgent travel arrangements until your passport(s) are returned.
